Innovative Acoustic Flooring System Gains BM TRADA Q-Mark
Press Release 2nd November 2007
The innovative Screedflo dB acoustic flooring system has been awarded the BM TRADA Certification Q-Mark for Engineered Flooring. The certificate was presented to Managing Director Mark Baillie at Interbuild this week.
The certification, unusually, covers four branded I-Joists: the JJI I-Joist from James Jones, Mitek's Posi-joist, Boise's BCI I-joist and the FinnJoist from Finnforest. The innovative system, which can be used in timber frame, masonry or renovation projects, consists of layers of acoustic foam, high-density fibreboard and Screedflo Anhydrite screed. Not only does this produce a very solid feeling floor with excellent acoustic performance, but it is also the only system of its type to be certified for use with underfloor heating. According to BM TRADA's David Payne, the design of the floor minimises the sound transmission, while a foam strip around the edge of the floor isolates the screed from the walls.
The rigorous assessment program, developed by testing body TRADA Technology Ltd, ensures that the Screedflo system meets the requirements of all relevant standards including BS 5268/Eurocode 5 and BS EN 13813:2000 which governs the calcium sulphate-based screed. The Q-Mark is recognised by NHBC and other leading bodies in the housing sector, which will give Screedflo an edge over competitors.
Mark Baillie said, 'While we are not currently a huge company, what we lack in size, we make up for in quality. Not only has this been recognised by the formation of our relationship with our joist partners, but also through the achievement of our third-party certification. Screedflo dB is the only screed-based acoustic floor to have obtained a Q-Mark, which we feel is the best way to reinforce specifiers' confidence in what we believe to be one of the best acoustic flooring products on the market.'
